Kalamos Island lies in the southeast of Lefkada, close to the coasts of Etoloakarnania.
The island consists of the homonym settlement of Kalamos and the settlement of Episkopi.
The nature is unique and the atmosphere travels the visitor in unforgettable past times.
The pine trees forest is one of the most exquisite. Luxuriant, green and hospitable to many species of birds.
Kalamos has small pebbled beaches with crystal waters, most of the times accessible from the sea side. Mirtia and Asprogiali are near the port, to the south side are Agriapidia, Pefkoi and Kefali and to the west side are Kedros, Alexaki, Kipoi and Trachilos.
Near to Episkopi, you will find the Castle of Kalamos, well know as Kastromonastiro. Unfortunately, only some parts of the high stone wall are preserved, with the beautiful arches inside which can be converted to loopholes from outside. It is said that in this Castle, the mother of Georgios Karaiskakis (fighter of 1821), was buried.
To the other side of the island lies Porto Leone, a small scenic bay, named from the Venetians who charted the area. Near by stands an old bridge, constructed centuries ago.
