In the town of Lefkada you will find an Aeroclub operating from 1999. The official name of the club is “Aeroclub for aeronauts of Lefkada” and its aim is to spread the “athletics of the sky” and to contribute in the protection of national wealth. Its members, except from the recreation flights with ultra light aircrafts, perform an important work for the society as volunteers of fire search, dealing with emergencies situation and aerial photography for the aims of General Secretariat for Civil Protection or the local authorities.
The Aeroclub, from its foundation, participates in all championship’s games, organised every year from the Hellenic Aeronautical and Airsport Federation supervised by the General Secretariat for Sports with a great number of successes.
The Aeroclub seats in the town of Lefkada and offers a hangar, a runway for take off and landing of 400 meters length and 20 meters width. On the base of this runaway have been performing many aircrafts’s visit from abroad, which contribute to the international publicity of the island. They have already been performed visits from Czehia, Italy, France and Germany. Many photos of the emergency runaway have been published in many specialised websites, with comments like “You could land to Lefkada, take your bath towel and walk 50 meters long to some of the most beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters of Lefkada.
