Public and private sports facilities are available in Lefkada, for any kind of sport.
Important sports events are:
Every year, Green Half Marathon takes place in Lefkada on the last Sunday of May. Road Race 21.097m. The route consists of 17 km around the lagoon of Lefkada which is protected by the Natura Treaty, and 5 km around the periphery of the town. A public 5km race for novice runners and walkers of all ages, and a 1,000m race for students take place at the same time as the Green Half Marathon.
The International Regatta and the Vassiliki Water Sports Festival take place every year in Vassiliki at the end of June. Athletes from Europe, the USA and Australia compete for 3 days in the Yacht, Catamaran, Windsurf & Laser Dinghy Classes, enjoying fantastic sailing in the beautiful bay of Vassiliki. Parallel events and happenings are not to be missed!
The LEFKADA MTB OPEN RACE, an open mountain bike race is organized every Autumn. It takes place in and around the villages of Sfakiotes, at a 400m altitude, 9 km away from the town of Lefkada. The race begins and ends at the central square of Lazarata village. Each lap is about 17 km long and the total race is 35 km, all through forest paths, agricultural roads and village alleys.
