Vassiliki Watersports Festival and International Sailing Regatta
The village of Vassiliki on the island of Lefkas, is once again proud to be hosting the 7th Vassiliki Watersports Festival and International Sailing Regatta.
Organised by the Vassiliki Sailing Club with the support of the Greek Sailing Federation, the Region of Ionian iIslands, the Municipality of Lefkada, the sailing regatta has already attracted entries from all over Europe and from Canada.
Vassiliki is well known world-wide as one of Europe’s top locations for sailing, windsurfing and watersports in general with its wide bay enclosed on 3 sides and providing perfect sailing conditions in a stunningly beautiful environment.
Racing will take place over 3 days from Thursday 29th June until Saturday 1st July with 3 to 4 races each day in the following classes, Laser, (Standard, Womens and Youth), Catamaran, and Open Dinghy. Racing will be in Vasssiliki bay and visible from both the village and the beach.
As well as the main sailing regatta, there will also be a Yacht race on the Saturday, with a start inside Vassiliki bay and a course around the small offshore island of Arkoudi before returning to a finish in the bay.
Finally, there will be a windsurfing ‘Master-Blaster’ scheduled when conditions permit.
President of the Vassiliki Sailing Club and previous technical adviser to the Greek Olympic Sailing team, Thanos Vakalopoulos says about the event:
“We are privileged to be able to offer sailors an event which will not only include great competition from an international audience but also a fantastic entertainment programme off the water. In this regard, we are very lucky to have one of Europe’s top sailing holiday companies, Wildwind Holidays, as main sponsor of the event, and, as they are celebrating their 30th year bringing sporting holidaymakers to Lefkas, they have arranged some very special parties, including an incredible David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix cover band coming from the UK who will be performing live on stage outside the Town Hall on the Saturday 1st July following the prizegiving for the regatta.
Other entertainments are scheduled for the week – all with free entry, for further information please contact: http://www.vassiliki-watersports-festival.com//?languageSelection=1
